- תָּרַס(denom. of תָּרִיס), Hif. הִתְרִיס 1) to shield, protect. Y.Sabb.V, 7b bot. (expl. לבובין) נותן … והוא מַתְרִיס כנגד חיה one places a hide from the tannery against its heart, and this protects it against attacks of wild beasts. 2) to resist, fight, wrestle in debate.
